Mid-January, 1999. It took 6 months of work to produce this, so we hope you'll read
it carefully. This is not re-digested Greenpeace material, although that was
much of our original efforts. We present here original library research, documents
from the industry and from government agencies, and information gotten first-hand from
leading academic authorities. 10/01/99: Recently, the former U.S.
Surgeon General C. Everett Koop was senior author of a review of studies on
Phthalate toxicity. The mass media reported the results as "Koop
commission (sic) declares vinyl toy safe!" The report did not quite say
this, and the debate is far from over, anyway. Read our update. January 2000: We are trying to update our list of mass-market infant toys containing PVC. Generally, manufacturers are not very co-operative. For example, the word from Fisher-Price/Mattell is: "we don't know which toys, if any, are made with PVC" BACK TO TOP OF PAGE |
