HAND-CRANK SPEED WINDERS Our Speed Winders make winding rubber motors on our airplanes fast and easy. These labor saving tools wind 5, 10, or 15 revolutions on the motor for every 1 handcranked turn. Requires 3 hands (i.e., you need a partner to hold the model). To use, unhook the motor from the rear motor hook, |
|
stretch the motor,
and walk in toward the plane while winding, then re-attach the motor. |

Use our 15:1 and new 10:1 Rubber Winders for no-fuss, no-nonsense fast winding for competition events. These are absolutely
necessary for the Cruiser or Sorcerer models (they require 1500 - 2000 winds). You cannot
hand-wind these models, and the 5:1 is too slow.

Electric Winder operates on 2 AA batteries. Resettable counter lets you count winds, so you know exactly when to stop winding. An efficient labor-saver for all our "Just-for-Fun" models (not for the Sorcerer or Cruiser). This is the only winder you can use with the Flyboy. Not usable for the Sorcerer or Cruiser. | |

This is the tool to use when you have to make repeated accurate cuts of any of these angles. Just select the angle and "click" the gauge into position. The rest is easy! |

Complying With the “Opaque Vertical Surface” Rule
|
|
PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE TEXT CAREFULLY. THERE IS A SMALL CHANCE
THAT OUR SOLUTION HERE WILL BE ALLOWED BUT DISFAVORED BY INDIVIDUAL
EVENT OFFICIALS, RESULTING IN PLACEMENT IN A LOWER TIER. WE
STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU CONTACT IN ADVANCE THE OFFICIALS OF ANY EVENT
AT WHICH YOU EXPECT TO COMPETE, IN ORDER TO DETERMINE HOW THEY WILL
INTERPRET THE "OPAQUE VERTICAL SURFACE" RULE. The drawing above depicts one end of the stabilizer, showing the leading and trailing edge spars and the end rib. Since there are no specified sizes for the “opaque” rule, covering the end rib (one or both) of the stabilizer with colored tissue should comply with the rule. The hatched area in the drawing represents this tissue. Cut a piece of tissue a little bigger than the end rib, keeping one long side straight. Apply a little model airplane cement, or some glue stick, to the end rib (and spar ends) and attach the tissue with the straight edge aligned with the bottom of the spars. Trim off the excess along the top of the rib with a very sharp razor blade. Repeat for the second end, if you want to, although only one is required. The added weight of the tissue and glue should be negligible. An extremely light application of glue will avoid unbalancing the aircraft. You may use any colored tissue: Lightweight packing tissue such as that used for gift-boxing and may be obtained in any card or gift shop is acceptable. The common-sense solution of coloring the rudder with marker has been disallowed. If you are concerned that the solution presented here will not be accepted, you may use condenser paper or colored model-building tissue on just the rudder (the lightest available is 3 times heavier than Ultrafilm). We plan to stock small amounts of tan condenser paper and bright colored synthetic tissue to distribute along with the kits. Aluminized mylar is much heavier than any of these, and is not a good choice. The SO FAQ suggestion of using "shopping bag" plastic is not helpful: It is very heavy, and does not adhere to any glue that we have ever heard of. Please contact the officials who will be judging your events to make sure whatever solution you plan to use will be accepted. You might point out that the official clarification explicitly exludes any measure of surface area as a criterion. Back to top of this page |
