HAND-CRANK SPEED WINDERS
Our Speed Winders make winding rubber motors on our airplanes fast and easy. These labor saving tools wind 5, 10, or 15 revolutions on the motor for every 1 handcranked turn.  Requires 3 hands (i.e., you need a partner to hold the model).
To use, unhook the motor from the rear motor hook,

stretch the motor, and walk in toward the plane while winding, then re-attach the motor.
The 5:1 Winder works with all our rubber-powered planes, including ready-to-fly, as long as rubber motor can easily be unhooked from its rear attachment and re-attached. (e.g., not the Flyboy). The 5:1 is not a good choice for the Cruiser or Sorcerer (too slow), and will not work with the Guillows Flyboy. We have reduced the price on the 5:1 winder from $7.50.

Use our 15:1 and new 10:1 Rubber Winders for no-fuss, no-nonsense fast winding for competition events. These are absolutely necessary for the Cruiser or Sorcerer models (they require 1500 - 2000 winds). You cannot hand-wind these models, and the 5:1 is too slow.
We have reduced the prices on these high-speed winders from $25.95.

The new 10:1 winder is a little slower than the 15:1, but the 10 to 1 ratio allows easy and intuitive counting of winds - so important in contest flying!  The 15:1 winder is the fastest simple hand-crank model available. The 10:1 and 15:1 are not recommended for the Guillow kits (Build-n-Fly,Ready-to-Fly).

#389 5:1 Rubber Speed Winder  -  $7.50 . . . . $6.25
Fast winding for general applications - China import

#388-10 10:1 Rubber Speed Winder - 25.95 . . . . $22.95   Quantity

Fast winding and easy counting  for competitions - MADE IN ENGLAND

#389 15 to 1 Rubber Speed Winder - 25.95 . . . .  $22.95
Buy a 10:1 - essentially the same product, same price - easier to count winds!!
Fastest winding, requires care or a calculator for accurate counting - MADE IN ENGLAND

Electric Winder operates on 2 AA batteries. Resettable counter lets you count winds, so you know exactly when to stop winding. An efficient labor-saver for all our "Just-for-Fun" models (not for the Sorcerer or Cruiser). This is the only winder you can use with the Flyboy. Not usable for the Sorcerer or Cruiser.
AG8819 Electric Winder . . . . . . . . $8.95

Builders' Supplies:   Glue, Assembly Pins, Mylar, knives, single-edge blades, precision jig cutters

Grip Pins  - a real necessity!  More expensive than T-pins but sharper and much easier to use.
These make the job easier, produce better quality work. Two structure sides can be duplicated, one one top of the other with wax paper in between, for symmetric structure precision. Also provides light clamping pressure for setting glue joints at any angle. Use the pin shoulders to hold the work, or pin through a piece of scrap used to press the work to the workboard.  Gentle side pressure can be applied to keep joints in place while drying, and cambered ribs can be held vertical with 1 or 2 pins on each side of the rib. Note: Use very light pressure on balsa parts and do not pin through balsa on Cruiser or Sorcerer models! Weighting the parts with 1/2" washers is the preferred method of Ray Harlan, designer of the Cruiser. We still think grip pins are better if correctly used.  We suggest using an accurately flat, sufficiently large, soft balsa or pine board or piece of 3/4" softwood plywood, clean, flat heavyweight corrugated boxboard, 2'x2' ceiling tile, or dense insulation foam board as a construction surface for use with these pins. Cover work surface with wax paper to permit easy removal of finished assemblies.
#587 - Grip Pins . . . . . . . . . . . . .$6.50   (Box of 50 pins)

Ambroid Cement
The choice of many experts. It is very forgiving, does not require joint pressure, and can be removed from an incorrectly built joint with acetone. Apply sparingly with toothpick or balsa sliver. Where weight is critical, do not follow tube directions; apply to one part only.  Where strength is more important, apply to both parts, rub into wood and remove excess, allow to dry a few minutes, then reapply to one part and mate surfaces. Hold in place until dry with gentle pressure with pins. (NOT SOLD SEPARATELY)

G18AMBR  1.8 oz tube Ambroid Cement . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $3.25
WE MAY SHIP EITHER DUCO OR AMBROID IN PLACE OF THE OTHER, DEPENDING ON WHAT IS IN STOCK.
Right now, what we have is Ambroid Cement.  We were lucky to get it.

We also recommend a similar cellulosic solvent-based glue, that old standby Duco Cement.
This is the same strong, reliable glue we were building models with 50 years ago. It's a little thicker than Ambroid, and can be cut with a small amount of acetone to adjust viscosity for lightweight structures such as airplanes.
(NOT SOLD SEPARATELY)  At present, we do not have Duco Cement.

G62455DUC  DUCO CEMENT 1.0 oz  -- $3.25 --  Quantity

Mylar Film
We now offer 1.4µ Mylar film in rolls 12.5” x 10’, enough for covering several models.  It is superior to tissue in several ways.  It is included with the Cruiser kits, and may be purchased separately for the Sorcerers. We include updated instructions for use.  Application takes some practice, but it is worth the effort.
N1410MYL  10.4 sq ft roll Mylar film . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .$11.50
If you are using Ultrafilm mylar instead of tissue, be aware that there seems to be a problem with this material regarding compliance with the "Opaque Vertical Surface" rule for Division B and C Science Olympiad competition.  Ultrafilm is much lighter and more stable, and somewhat stronger than tissue.  Ray Harlan has developed a quick and easy solution for this problem, thus permitting use of Ultrafilm on all aircraft surface, so that minor or no re-balancing of the aircraft will be necessary and maximum performance is retained.

Excel Single-edge razor blades
The experienced modelers' choice. More accurate and easier to control in some applications, and much sharper and smoother-cutting than other products. These blades are also much more hazardous to handle - not for children under 12 years of age. These blades require safe disposal: either wrap dull blades in duct tape or save in yogurt container and cover with epoxy before discarding.
NOT SOLD SEPARATELY!

Use this clear finish to fill and seal wood surfaces that will not be covered by tissue. Allow 24 hours to dry, sand lightly with fine sandpaper to produce smooth surface, then paint.  (You can't sand tissue covering!)  May be used over Testors paint (see below) to add luster and depth to colors.   Also apply to tissue covering to tighten and strengthen, and to provide a better base for painting.  1 ounce (29.5 ml) bottle is enough to do one large or several small models. Complying With the “Opaque Vertical Surface” Rule

PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE TEXT CAREFULLY. THERE IS A SMALL CHANCE THAT OUR SOLUTION HERE WILL BE ALLOWED BUT DISFAVORED BY INDIVIDUAL EVENT OFFICIALS, RESULTING IN PLACEMENT IN A LOWER TIER. WE STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU CONTACT IN ADVANCE THE OFFICIALS OF ANY EVENT AT WHICH YOU EXPECT TO COMPETE, IN ORDER TO DETERMINE HOW THEY WILL INTERPRET THE "OPAQUE VERTICAL SURFACE" RULE.
The drawing above depicts one end of the stabilizer, showing the leading and trailing edge spars and the end rib. Since there are no specified sizes for the “opaque” rule, covering the end rib (one or both) of the stabilizer with colored tissue should comply with the rule.
The hatched area in the drawing represents this tissue. Cut a piece of tissue a little bigger than the end rib, keeping one long side straight. Apply a little model airplane cement, or some glue stick, to the end rib (and spar ends) and attach the tissue with the straight edge aligned with the bottom of the spars. Trim off the excess along the top of the rib with a very sharp razor blade.
Repeat for the second end, if you want to, although only one is required. The added weight of the tissue and glue should be negligible.
An extremely light application of glue will avoid unbalancing the aircraft. You may use any colored tissue: Lightweight packing tissue such as that used for gift-boxing and may be obtained in any card or gift shop is acceptable.
The common-sense solution of coloring the rudder with marker has been disallowed. If you are concerned that the solution presented here will not be accepted, you may use condenser paper or colored model-building tissue on just the rudder (the lightest available is 3 times heavier than Ultrafilm).  We plan to stock small amounts of tan condenser paper and bright colored synthetic tissue to distribute along with the kits. Aluminized mylar is much heavier than any of these, and is not a good choice.  The SO FAQ suggestion of using "shopping bag" plastic is not helpful: It is very heavy, and does not adhere to any glue that we have ever heard of.
Please contact the officials who will be judging your events to make sure whatever solution you plan to use will be accepted.  You might point out that the official clarification explicitly exludes any measure of surface area as a criterion.
