Ray Harlan's Cruiser 78 motorplane (Div. C) and Floater 78 glider (Div. B) for 2007-08: 
Both kits will build models that maximize performance and conform to '07-'08 rules. As always, each kit builds 2 planes.   Last year's models consistently won their events! 

We have no more Cruisers or Floaters for this season. They will be available again next October.

Floater 78 - Division B Balloon Launch

      Science Olympiad events once again includes a Wright Stuff competition for C-division and a balloon-released glider for B-division. Our kits, as always, are optimized for the specific event specs and rules. 
     For both kits, super-light, efficient design provides the winning edge. Kits includes a supply of Mylar Film. Each piece of balsa is hand-weighed to maximize strength-weight ration for each part of the model. The Cruiser 78's unique, ultra light-weight, super-efficient propeller is designed just for this kit, and is not available anywhere else (also available separately).   Also included: 3 different motors and thorough, easy directions for building, trimming for maximum flight times.

Do you need tools or accessories?    Suggested: Grip Pins, 10:1 or 15:1 Winder, Duco Cement. Do not use our electric winder for competition models!
      Each year, Ray produces the only commercially available models that are redesigned specifically for the current year's  SO rules and specifications.
      Teachers will also appreciate these kits for the easy instructions. Ray handcrafts them with one helper, sometimes just by himself, and we are fortunate to receive a small steady supply from him to sell to our customers. 
 Ray Harlan has been competing in endurance flying events for over 50 years. Based on his knowledge of the aerodynamics of superlight endurance aircraft, he develops kits for both experienced Science Olympiad competitors and novices who are willing to learn the necessary skills of craftsmanship and devote the time necessary for success.
     Schools: PO's accepted, but ALL TRANSACTIONS ARE PREPAID. (Details) Plan ahead! These kits cannot successfully be built in haste. Allow enough time for shipping, transit times, and careful construction and flight testing. 
Both kits include: 
*Detailed, step-by-step instructions for building and flying
*Extensive weight charts to help get parts to the right weight
*New balancing technique to get the Center of Gravity right the first time
* Mylar film covering, along with detailed directions for use. 
*Hand-selected weight-graded balsa to ensure a strong, minimum-weight model. Just a little extra is included to help you deal with mistakes. 
*Laser-cut ribs - a few extra are included just in case. 
*Both kits will build 2 airplanes.
*NOTE: WINGSPAN, ETC, IS WHATEVER YOU MAKE IT! 
These kits are designed to produce dimensions that offer the most performance while remaining within specified dimension limits. You can modify them any way you want, with reference to your tournament rules.

Cruiser 78:
*Ikara propellers, specially designed by Ray Harlan for these models. Spare propellers also are available for experimentation.
*Precision Cut Tan Super Sport rubber in several thicknesses to optimize flight time

Replacement Motors & Props
     There are 3 different weight motors in the kit. They vary in a range somewhat narrower than our selection (#376 is smaller than the narrowest, our #378 is larger than the largest supplied with the kit). These weights are custom cut and not available commercially. Our closest match is the .0938 (M377). It is at the high end of the motors supplied with the kit. You may compensate for increased mass per unit cross section by increasing prop pitch, which will slow the prop speed. If this increases thrust more than is desired, you may compensate if the plane climbs too quickly by backing off some winds (experiment to see how many). The real issue is the total mass of rubber. Width is not entirely reliable, since thickness varies a little. There is probably no single ideal value for motor weight and prop pitch taken together.
